A Message From the Creator
Hey groovy cats and welcome to Orange You Chill Creations!
I’m a one-woman team who’s all about bringing the fun and flair of retro vibes into your everyday style with my polymer clay jewelry.
I recently changed my products from “random style of the week” to everything retro, whether it's the groovy color blocks from the 60s or the funky neon hues of the 80s. It has been my dream of adopting this style, but I hesitated to commit to it.
So why did I put this off so long? If it was my dream, shouldn’t I have embraced it right from the start? It turns out, I was afraid to do the whole movement the justice it deserves.
The twentieth century is long over, so recreating the essence of the eras from the 1960s-1990s is a heavy responsibility. Fashion has changed, but retro, it seems, still has a significant and dedicated following that is often described as a “nostalgia-driven subculture.” That's a lot of pressure because I don't want to let anyone down.
Then I remembered a few things:
- “Done is better than perfect”: If I’m to compete in the top 10% of people who do what I do, I need to start. And practice. And fail. And retry. And ultimately succeed.
- My blog - Pink Bathrobe - is about this very thing! It explores themes such as the non-existence of perfectionism, the art of struggling, asking for help, dream jobs, anxiety and more.
- I’ve been preparing for this my whole life! There hasn’t been a day when I didn’t appreciate the eye candy of one of the mid to late twentieth century aesthetics. The bold colours and the unique shapes give the aesthetic an unapologetic boldness that catches my eye in a way that nothing else does.
So it turns out that I don’t need to be scared of pleasing the nostalgia-driven subculture community, because I am part of that community too and I can bring my authentic self into the mix the way no one else can. I can share my incredible wearable art with people like me.
Thanks for stopping by and jumping into this cool time machine with me. I can’t wait to share the results of my “travel” with you! My take on retro, from mid-century minimalism to the bold, in-your-face colours of the 90s will not disappoint.
Peace and love!
